Together we raised $203, 170!!!!!

Hi! I'm Meghan McNally

I am a junior at Central Dauphin High School and I am running for Student of the Year with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

In 2015, my mom, Ginger, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia (AML.) After a short but strong fought battle, she passed away. I was only 11 years old.

I fight to raise money for LLS so maybe in the future no one would have to go through what my mom and my family went through.

Join the Team!

(When joining the team, be sure to select REGION: Eastern PA - Delaware)

Congratulations!

On Thursday, February 24, at Grand Finale, Meghan McNally was named the Student of the Year, raising a new record, $203, 170!!

Meet Team M.E.G.:
Mom's Everlasting Gift

I am running in memory of my mom, Ginger. When I was only 10 years old my mom went back to work at Penn State Hershey Medical Center on the 7th floor Cancer Institute as a night shift secretary. Only a few months after starting back at work she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia and became a patient on the same floor she worked on.

She immediately started treatment consisting of chemotherapy, radiation, a bone marrow transplant, and clinical trials. Along the way we built a family of doctors, nurses, family, and friends all fighting with my mom and my family.

As we awaited her “homecoming” to our family after months of treatment, she contracted an infection and was sent to the ICU on Thanksgiving weekend only a few weeks after her bone marrow transplant. The fear that I felt while staying at my cousin's house for days and not being able to see my mom is a fear that no child or adult should have to feel. About a month later, and only a few days before Christmas, my mom passed away on December 17th, 2015. My brothers and I were 13, 11, and 9 years old at the time.

What is Student of the Year?

Students of the Year is a 7-week campaign from January 6 - February 24. It is a competition between area high school students to help raise money for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS.) This campaign teachers teenagers valuable life skills such as time management, public speaking, and raising money!

LLS is an organization that helps support families, pay for medical bills, along with funding cancer research and advancing studies. LLS helps fund research to develop treatments for blood cancers, and in that research has found treatments for other cancers, such as breast cancer. In addition, LLS has created a program which helps to provide support to patients with blood cancer through the Covid-19 global pandemic.

I have been involved with LLS for the past 5 years and every year I've been doing more and more to play my part in the fight against cancer.

Everyone knows someone who has had an experience with cancer, and it should not be that way. I dream of a world free of cancer, treatment bills, and loss.

Will you join the fight to beat blood cancer for good?
